Trends' passing test

Well, I'm going to scan some of the most important trends of this fall in order to tell you if it is :

Great to wear

Wearable only because it is fashionable

Even if it is said to be fashionable I would not wear it.

First, let's start with the Claudine collar. It is definitely part of the first group. I've been wearing collars for two years. When I first wore collars, people used to tell me that I look either like a girl in boarding school or like a snobby woman from the 16th arrondissement. But now as the preppy style is fashionable thanks to Gossip Girl you can't walk in the streets without seeing collars everywhere. I have a special mention for the beaded collar which can give a hint of "couture style" to your outfit. H&M sells some wonderful beaded collars that you can put either on dresses, shirts or sweaters.

Verdict: Definitely a pass with magna cum laude!

Next, I'll deal with the carpet slipper (you know what your grandfather wears !). It appears that now you can't leaf through a magazine without seeing some. There many kinds : studded (if you are rich you can buy the Louboutin's version and if you are looking for a cheaper version go on Topshop.com), with patterns or sequins. Personally I think that the good match is the slipper with sequins because it will enable you to party all night long (because it's comfy...

Smartopia for fashion

Today, let me briefly introduce you to a new trend called <Smartopia>

:Smart + Utopia

DEFI and ANDAM are the two main french organizations that supports the promotion of both revolutional creativity and commercial industry of fashion.

This probably is the amplifying sinergy that still manages to draw global attention to Prêt à Porter Paris.

Jean-Pierre MOCHO,president of the Fédération du Prêt-à- Porter has said: the key to this continuing success is encouraging a lifestyle of <Smartopia>.

The creativity of fashion can't glow by itself alone. It should be intimatedly connected with human engineering, commercial business ,craftmanship experience and more to be complete.

In easy words, we need more knowledge, experience and professional strategy in order to adapt and lead this endlessly changing world of fashion.

We need a well balanced fusion of each of those to be evolutive.

We need self-improving intelligence to promote and enhance more to the creativity.

Here we go for Smartopia !

XXL Sweaters

Oversized sweaters are the key to winter fashion. Cozy and simple as they may seem, tackling the look of the oversized sweater is not just about comfort.

Make a statement on the streets by topping any dress, skirt, or leggings with a sweater that says… “stylish and easy going.” Dress up this look by adding a belt around the waist of the sweater.

The oversized sweater looks great on men too. Leave the coat at home and instead through on a big sweater over a graphic t-shirt or denim button down shirt.

Find these oversized sweaters at your favorite second hand boutique, in the back of your attic, or at retail stores that sell vintage items such as Urban Outfitters.

'Tis the Season for Sequins

The holidays are here and who hasn’t been searching for that perfect New Year’s Eve outfit?

Sequins, both stylish and festive, can be found in many stores this time of year. Find glitter on dresses, skirts, bandeau tops, vests, and purses. Just about anything goes with this trend.

Winter has the tendency to drag out the dull colors in us- the typical blacks, grays and browns. But that is where sequins come in; glitter pieces can become the perfect accents for dark colors.

Dress up any shirt or sweater with a sequin vest or for a more “riskay” look, try a sequined bandeau bra top underneath a sheer blouse. My personal favorite look is the sequin skirt paired with a simple silk blouse. This creates a look of simple elegance, perfect for holiday parties or New Year’s Eve events.

Create these looks with sequin pieces found at stores such as Zara, J.Crew, Express, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, and many other retailers.

Holiday Party Wear for Men

"Vintage Classic"

This holiday season, think a little out of the box when dressing for celebrations such as New Year’s Eve.

Experiment with something along the lines of “vintage classic”, such as bow ties. This classic necktie will never go out of style, but this year more than ever, it’s time to bring the bow tie back.

Not the typical James-Bond solid black bow tie and fitted suit, but something more relaxed and original. Think modern day James Bond, when dressing for the New Year’s Eve party you’ve been thinking about all year.

Go for something casual like a denim oxford shirt paired with a patterned necktie. Then add a blazer and slim-fitting jeans to create the perfect go-to outfit for any holiday party.

If the bow tie is out of your element, try experimenting with simple patterned suit trousers, such as Topman's Biscotti Check Skinny Suit, then add a solid button-down shirt.Create the best holiday look by combining casual with classic pieces, such as blazers and bow ties. Find these styles and others at retailers such as Urban Outfitters and Topman.

Bright Tights

The cold weather will not stop us from bringing out the mini-skirts. In fact, winter is the best time of year for your favorite black skirt because by adding tights you can make it look completely different each time.

Colored tights are all the rage this season and easy to find at your favorite stores. Find them in a range of winter appropriate colors such as dark purple, mustard yellow, and rustic orange.

With the right top, colored tights can glam up any outfit in a simple and easy way. Try cropped sweaters and high-waisted skirts with these fun colored tights.

If you can’t find the right color, experiment with black tights in a range of patterns to add that edgy flair to any dress or skirt. Choose from patterns such as zigzag, polka dot, and floral lace.

Swoon over this trend

Elbow Patches on tailored blazers for men and women are making their way from the runway to the streets this season. Corduroy and leather fabrics cut in oval shapes can spice up any jacket or sweater. Find this trend in stores or try sewing your own patches to the elbows of a solid or printed blazer. Hounds tooth blazers and brown corduroy patches make an excellent pair for a look that is playful yet professional.

Lots of Layers

The layered look is classic for men's wear in the late fall. Button down shirts look effortlessly sharp under sweaters. With the right blazer, create a look that is well dressed and casual paired with a plaid button down or t-shirt underneath. Corduroys are practical and stylish this season, but also go for beige or neutral colored slacks paired with off-white shirts. For warm weather accessories, layer on up with caps and knit striped scarfs.
