'Tis the Season for Sequins

The holidays are here and who hasn’t been searching for that perfect New Year’s Eve outfit?

Sequins, both stylish and festive, can be found in many stores this time of year. Find glitter on dresses, skirts, bandeau tops, vests, and purses. Just about anything goes with this trend.

Winter has the tendency to drag out the dull colors in us- the typical blacks, grays and browns. But that is where sequins come in; glitter pieces can become the perfect accents for dark colors.

Dress up any shirt or sweater with a sequin vest or for a more “riskay” look, try a sequined bandeau bra top underneath a sheer blouse. My personal favorite look is the sequin skirt paired with a simple silk blouse. This creates a look of simple elegance, perfect for holiday parties or New Year’s Eve events.

Create these looks with sequin pieces found at stores such as Zara, J.Crew, Express, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, and many other retailers.

Holiday Party Wear for Men

"Vintage Classic"

This holiday season, think a little out of the box when dressing for celebrations such as New Year’s Eve.

Experiment with something along the lines of “vintage classic”, such as bow ties. This classic necktie will never go out of style, but this year more than ever, it’s time to bring the bow tie back.

Not the typical James-Bond solid black bow tie and fitted suit, but something more relaxed and original. Think modern day James Bond, when dressing for the New Year’s Eve party you’ve been thinking about all year.

Go for something casual like a denim oxford shirt paired with a patterned necktie. Then add a blazer and slim-fitting jeans to create the perfect go-to outfit for any holiday party.

If the bow tie is out of your element, try experimenting with simple patterned suit trousers, such as Topman's Biscotti Check Skinny Suit, then add a solid button-down shirt.Create the best holiday look by combining casual with classic pieces, such as blazers and bow ties. Find these styles and others at retailers such as Urban Outfitters and Topman.

With the right top, colored tights can glam up any outfit in a simple and easy way. Try cropped sweaters and high-waisted skirts with these fun colored tights.

If you can’t find the right color, experiment with black tights in a range of patterns to add that edgy flair to any dress or skirt. Choose from patterns such as zigzag, polka dot, and floral lace.

Swoon over this trend

Elbow Patches on tailored blazers for men and women are making their way from the runway to the streets this season. Corduroy and leather fabrics cut in oval shapes can spice up any jacket or sweater. Find this trend in stores or try sewing your own patches to the elbows of a solid or printed blazer. Hounds tooth blazers and brown corduroy patches make an excellent pair for a look that is playful yet professional.

Lots of Layers

The layered look is classic for men's wear in the late fall. Button down shirts look effortlessly sharp under sweaters. With the right blazer, create a look that is well dressed and casual paired with a plaid button down or t-shirt underneath. Corduroys are practical and stylish this season, but also go for beige or neutral colored slacks paired with off-white shirts. For warm weather accessories, layer on up with caps and knit striped scarfs.

Capes and Ponchos

This season capes and ponchos serve as fabulous outerwear options. Navajo prints, solid colors, and fringed accents are just a few of the options in stores today. A cape is described as a sleeveless sweater cut as a circle, where a poncho is cut in a square shape. Both capes and ponchos create a dramatic draping silhouette, which appears sleek and appropriately cozy in the cold. Try a striped long sleeve shirt or a lightweight sweater underneath for extra layers.
